I believe that art is a powerful source of joy in the world. My work is playful and varied, and imbued with a sense of aliveness. My style ranges from detailed realism to more emotive and expressive works, drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature, the human form, and a profound love of flowers.
I was born in Guatemala and currently live in Bristol. I have a diverse background in the arts, having studied at Chelsea College of Arts, Goldsmiths University, and the University of Bristol. I now work from my studio in Bristol, with a primary emphasis on mixed media painting.
I consider myself a versatile artist, and my creative journey spans various mediums. I was lucky enough that my photography series "Eye Heart Spleen" garnered recognition on a global scale, with features in publications such as ABC News, the Huffington Post, This Is Colossal, and more. My oil painting of Mikael has been long listed for the Herbert Smith Freehills Portrait Award 2025.

Artist Statement
As a Guatemalan artist working in film and television, Camila’s fascination with composition and light shapes her approach to painting. Her background in these fields informs her exploration of form and technique, driving her to push beyond technical precision into a more expressive, impressionist style.
Having traveled extensively, Camila's view of the world is deeply influenced by the variety of landscapes and cultures she’s experienced. Painting provides a grounding force amid the constant movement in her life. While her skills in oil painting allow for a high level of detail and accuracy, she is currently focused on embracing a looser, more fluid approach to capture the essence of her subjects.
Inspired by Henri Matisse’s Fauvism period and the technique of John Singer Sargent, this shift reflects her desire to blend technical mastery with emotional depth. Camila’s art is a journey toward balancing meticulous craftsmanship with spontaneous expression, aiming to reveal the intricate interplay between form and light. Ultimately, she seeks to offer viewers a space of sanctuary—an environment where they can find calm, reflection, and respite.
